Exciting new initiative for Auckland South!

This week we have taken delivery of a brand new Plant Growing Unit at Auckland South which will be used by clients as part of a very exciting project that we have started in partnership with Trees for Survival and Kinetics Ltd. The unit will be used to grow about 800 native plants (23 plants per year negate the use of a car!) and give meaning and some horticultural skills to our clients - even better, the plants then go to schools and community groups where they get planted out where they are best needed, reducing erosion, improving water quality, creating habitats for native species and most of all, improving our local environment. We know that by providing an opportunity to help get clients back into work even in a small way improves their self-confidence, self-esteem, relationships and self-care. All of these things improve independence and often reduce reliance on funded services long-term and represent a better quality of life for the client.

Kinetics Ltd, Managing Director Andrew Hunt says: “On behalf of our clients and staff, this year we’ve made a donation to the Stewart Rehabilitation Services NZ Trust and Trees for Survival. We’ve done it in lieu of Christmas gifts, and I’m sure you will be as excited about it as we are. When Stewart asked us to help, we were thrilled! Kinetics is proud to be supporting Stewart’s environmental initiative, run in partnership with ‘Trees for Survival’ it’s a great project and we are delighted to be involved!”

Jill Dean, General Manager of Stewart Rehabilitation Services says: “Kinetics Ltd have been so fantastic in their support of this project, they have fully funded this unit for us and we will work hard to make it a success. Hopefully we will soon have a number of units across all of our sites and we will certainly be looking at the skills we can build on with our clients and the opportunities that this can help us create for them. We are especially grateful to Andrew and his team for getting behind us and helping make this happen!”
